ICC 2008

This was another successful participation by The BeeTTle Crew volunteers in the annual International Coastal Cleanup effort. Most of The BeeTTle Crew volunteers arrived at Chagville on time at around 6:45am. There were a few other volunteers milling around (some from Heroes Foundation) but none of the official organisers for this location appeared to be present at the time. They eventually showed up and things got underway sometime around 8am. The Ministry of Planning was a co-sponsor of the event with the YSATT. I must say there was some sense of disorganisation this time around. But thanks to the large volunteer turnout, the amount of garbage collected was quite impressive.

Volunteers received a voucher for a snack box at KFC, which may not be the best "token" but it's the thought that counts. The early bird arrivals, and others "in the know", also received a brown bag breakfast.

Some pictures from ICC 2008 will be uploaded at the new Facebook page for The BeeTTle Crew soon.

Clean up at Manzanilla

The Clean-up at Manzanilla on Saturday 16th February was very successful. We started late (true Trinidadian time) because we had to wait on some members in Arima, but we made up for that with our efficient work through rain and sun. On this occasion we had 12 volunteers (three children and two foreign visitors) and we were able to pick up two van loads of garbage, which we disposed of at the dumpster in the Manzanilla Resort. I must comment that the beach was a little cleaner and the first camp site which we usually clean was already clean. We therefore visited the next site which is south of the first. After the clean-up we provided the volunteers with a few refreshments which were purchased by a donation we obtained from TDC.

"That's about it", and I hope to see more volunteers at the next clean-up.
